Hi Folks,

Just moved down here to find work and looks like I'll be living here for a while if all goes as planned. So I'd like to meet up with some others to Spin Fire, Hoop a little drink some red wine and watch the sunsets as I'll be missing my burner friends in NY State really bad. Brought my little pug dog Judi so dog friendly is cool too though I can leave her with her new Aunt once in a while.

I'm staying in Sarasota with my brother's buddies Mom's place but quite a bit of the time you'll find me here at my brothers place downtown.

There isn't a date, yet, but if you're interested on any level I will contact you as soon as I know. Skill level isn't important. It will probably be in the St. Pete or Clearwater area. I just came back to the bay area so if anyone wants to play or teamwork I think we can make some cool acts and money

Anyone Interested in Trading Lessons?

I am a licensed hoop dance instructor, as well as a fire hoop performer. You can check out my website or watch my You Tube videos, if you want to learn more about my hoopdance background. I'll list links at the bottom of this message.

I would like to learn some additional skill toys, including staff and poi. I'm wondering if anyone in the Tampa Bay area (St. Pete would be GREAT) is interested in trading out lessons? I teach you how to hoopdance, and you teach me staff or poi. I was a baton twirler in a previous life (majorette, yea... go ahead and laugh;), so I think I would be able to pick up staff pretty quickly. Plus, I love the way fire staff looks and so this is the skill toy that I'm most interested in. Message me if you'd like to work out a trade. Oh, and the links are www.hoolamonsters.com (website)
and www.youtube.com/hoolamonster (You Tube channel)

Hoop dance is the latest fitness sensation sweeping the nation... popping up in gyms, fitness centers and even nightclubs! The hula hoop has evolved, and it's now better than ever. We use slightly weighted, adult-sized hoops that are much easier to use than the cheap, plastic ones found in stores. They move slower and provide a great workout! Get ready to experience "feel good fitness!" I am a licensed HoopGirl Workout instructor. The HoopGirl Workout focuses on teaching the art of hoopdance as a tranformational tool of personal growth and empowerment. Visit www.hoolamonsters.com for more info. and click on the Classes page to register. Questions? Please email Abby at abby@hoolamonsters.com

Here's what some of my students have to say:
"This is the most fun I've ever had in an exercise class!" - Debbie from Tampa
"The class was such a positive, uplifting experience that enabled me to relieve stress and do something good for my body." - Ronda from Bradenton

Hooping Benefits:
Provides a sweat-drenching cardio workout
Guaranteed to make you smile and laugh
Strengthens ab muscles
Enhances creativity
Tones arms, legs and thighs
Builds confidence
Enables you to push your limits
Assists with coordination
Relieves stress
ALWAYS an ice breaker/ conversation starter
Improves balance
Serves as a form of meditation

* Fitness Hooping for Beginners, 6-Week Series: Fitness Hooping for Beginners will cover the fundamentals of hoop dance, with a focus on finding your groove, developing flow and having fun in the process. Students will learn how to hoop on the waist, chest, legs, hips, butt and shoulders. Off-body movements and jumps will also be covered. Please come prepared with a water bottle and wear comfortable workout clothes. Hoop rentals are included, and students will also have the opportunity to purchase hoops at a discounted rate.

As a community service we organize info about drumming/dancing activities in SE Florida (Monroe/FL Keys, Miami-Dade, Broward,
Palm Beach, and Martin Counties), and publish regular, free, e-mailed newsletters.

We organize this around a Yahoo Group site. It is not a discussion group; it's only for announcements about drumming/dancing
events (drum circles, performances, classes, etc.).
You'll receive no spam (announcements from strangers to our community). Plus we respect your privacy & never give away your
e-mail address.

Each month you'll get 3 e-mail newsletters (monthly) about drumming/dancing activities - one each for North (Palm Beach & Martin
events (full Moon circles, seasonal celebrations, etc.).
Please just delete the one(s) you don't need - unfortunately we can't send you selected editions.

You'll also get access to files & links of great value to drummers & dancers.

Drum circles are great opportunities to connect, let loose, & feel the ecstatic energy of life flowing through you.
For teachers, these circles provide great opportunities for your students to practice their drumming or dancing in a loving, apprecia-
tive, no-pressure, fun environment.

LIST YOUR EVENTS
You can publicize your drumming event/class/performance to thousands of interested folks & attract more people.

Hey all, I'm originally a 305 native, but now I'm living up here in Atlanta ;) Anyway I'm going to be coming into the South Dade area to visit family the weekend of the 25th. I Imagine there must be someone near Miami interested in lighting some things on fire at some point that weekend and spinning them around? No? Lighting anything on fire? As I'm not sure how taking my poi on a plane will work I might be in need of borrowing equipment as well for said lighting of fire. . .

It seems clubs in Florida don’t allow vendors to set up a booth and Raves and Burner type events are not as plentiful as they are in Los Angeles. I was thinking of selling, Burner type clothing, Rave / Club apparel and reconstructed fashions at a Flea Market.

I found a couple and wanted to see what some people think of them or if anyone can suggest one.

After a couple of weeks off due to busy schedules and such, Poi in the Park RETURNS!!
We will be having this one at our house again and make it a BBQ too. Bring covered dishes or meat to throw on the grill, maybe kabobs, but be prepared to cook it yourself or bring it already cooked! Publix has great fried chicken! We are going to go to an every couple of weeks or once a month for PIP.

We do have some extra practice poi, staffs, flags and a couple of fans. Mel has an extra hoop or 2 as well. We can teach you how to make practice poi - tennis balls and long socks or string and tennis balls! Or I may bring some practice poi for sale if I can get them, let me know if you are interested. I also make practice staffs so let me know if you are interested and we can go from there. Email me if you have any questions, tampamayhem@yahoo.com.

Our address is: 1213 Alameda Ave, Clearwater, FL 33759. We have a pelican mailbox. You can mapquest it, google map it or yahoo map it. We are near 60 and McMullen Booth.
The time: 1 PM

I am also going to do a Sarasota and/or Orlando PIP as well so I need to find out how much interest there is in those areas and any others. Please let me know if you want this to happen!
See you there!

PIP BBQ needs

I still need a head count to see who is coming for sure so we can get what we need for the BBQ.
Now we need to get together and figure out what to bring. We are not much into sodas, so if you want something to drink other than water or tea, please bring it. We will probably need ice as well. If you are not into meat, I suggest you bring something that you will like to eat as this is a BBQ and I want to burn some meat tho other grilling options are available. Steaks, hamburger, kabobs, chicken - are all welcome on the grill. We will need side dishes like potato salad, mashed potatos, corn, chips, dip, desserts, snack stuff, etc...whatever you want.
I started a yahoo group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/poiintheparktampa, there is also one on myspace - http://groups.myspace.com/poiintheparktampa and tribe - http://tribes.tribe.net/poi_in_the_park_tampa. Please go to one of these and post what you are bringing. I am making a BBQ needs post on all groups so we can see what people are bringing. I would rather use the yahoo group for the main posting so it will be as easy as possible to see what is being brought and what is still needed.
I look forward to seeing you all there and making this inaugural PIP a success! Post to the group or feel free to email/message me with any questions. Bring a camera so we can post new pix to the groups!

Poi in the Park/BBQ - Saturday March 3rd - Clearwater, FL

Ok, im glad there is interest in practicing the wonderful art of Poi and all of the spinning arts! I would like the inaugural(1st) Poi in the Park to be at our place in Clearwater this Saturday or Sunday around noon so we can get a feeling of who all is going to show up. We have a good amount of room and a park not too far if we exceed our space. We will probably do an every other weekend thing here in Clearwater and then change it up on off weekends to be in Tampa, or Orlando or wherever if there is enough interest. We will see. I want to find a good park with bathrooms in Clearwater and Tampa, that has ample room and not a disc golf course on it so we can stay out of others way and vice versa. So please respond, the tentative date is Saturday, March 3rd.
We do have some extra practice poi, staffs, flags and a couple of fans, Mel has an extra hoop or 2 as well. We can teach you how to make practice poi - tennis balls and long socks or string and tennis balls! Or i may bring some practice poi for sale if i can get them, let me know if you are interested. I make practice staffs so let me know if you are interested and we can go from there. Email me if you have any questions, tampamayhem@yahoo.com.
This is also a springboard. This is my first step and this could be your motivation to find people near you that want to spin and get them together. Start your own group! This is one of the ways to build a community. Its all how much you want to put into it. Ok, enough of the motivational speech, lets get this thing going!
Please contact me for address and phone numbers.
The time: 12 noonish
If you want, we can make it a bbq as well. We have a propane grill.
Let me know what you think and see you soon!

Poi in the Park - Tampa/Clearwater

I would like to find out how much interest there would be to have a “Poi in the Park” non-fire practice session during the day so we can really see each other and what we are doing and hopefully learn a bit more from each other. It would not only be poi practice, but anything people would want to learn - staff, fans, flags or any other implement of destruction and how to move/dance with it. It would probably be better to have it on the weekend, Saturday or Sunday, so more people will be able to make it. I am looking for feedback to find out if this is the best time or possibly have a couple of different practice events, one during the week and one on the weekend so more people can attend. I want to try and start one in Clearwater, and maybe another in Tampa.
This is just a feeling out process. I don’t want to clutter this list with more chatter than necessary so please reply to me off list, or not, and if there is enough interest, I may make a group, either yahoo, myspace or tribe. So let me know what you think so we can get the ball rolling, or the poi spinning!!
Hope to hear from you soon!

I will be heading to Miami on March 21st to perform at Ultra Music Festival in downtown Miami. I am looking for fire dancers for the performance. I would love to bring a massive group of dancers out to perform at Ultra and blow some minds out there. If it works out we can do this semi annually. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks!

You have to check out the www.paralounge.net website. This is a great event! Low cost, high quality. BIG drum circle! Over 400 attended in April and we expect more this November. It located in north Florida. Spirit of the Suwannee Music park. The website has complete details and lots of great pics. There is also a Paralounge tribe here at this tribe forum. Check it out. We started a great photo archive of our past events.
Safe journeys,

Im curious if their are any lessons or performances in the orlando area. I don't have to work with fire but i would love to learn to poi and/or staff and have a real teacher. If not I would still love to see a performance.

Fl firedancers needed to boot Bush

Hi all,
my friend Leo is organizing some parties to get out the vote. He is looking for firedancers in the Miami area. Check out his website and give him a call, also let me know if your interested.

As November 2 draws closer, we are all being inundated with appeals
from any number of organizations falling all over each other to
influence this historic election. After spending three disheartening
months working for several of these organizations down here in the
crucial South Florida, I recently launched an initiative that
addresses a variety of crucial gaps in the efforts of large political
players.

'Not Just Hype: The Network' is a coalition of local organizers and
community activists whose vision for energizing marginalized voter
blocks goes beyond the stale strategies of the political
establishment. By adopting creative urban marketing and performance
approaches to the political arena, members of the partnership are
coordinating a targeted effort to mobilize key young, immigrant and
minority voter blocks—precisely the dormant groups that hold the real
potential to swing the election in South Florida.

As a tiny, innovative organization rooted in the unique socio-cultural
context of South Florida, the scope of our work is clearly defined.
Please take a moment to read about our exciting initiatives, like the
visually-captivating Halloween Early Voting Parade, 'Vote For Me'
voter disenfranchisement resistance campaign, Mixed CD Voter Guide
(find out more in the attached Proposal or on
http://www.NotJustHype.org).

If you have any questions or would like additional information about
Not Just Hype, please call me on 917-330-6553 or email me at
***************************************************************
Subject:Sad news for Fire Performers in Seattle

===8<==============Original message text===============
Some of you have seem this, but others have not and I find that it is incredibly important that we all know what is going on in our own cities. I thought Seattle was one of the last places to be free with your fire, but this is sad news. This comes by way of Maque da Vis who runs Cirque da Flambe and who will also head up the Radio Heads (new name is coming) this year.

BAD NEWS

As of today, MOnday, May 3, 2004, The City of Seattle has decided that all Seattle parks are off limits to all fire performers, for practice or otherwise, unless they had a permit from the City of Seattle's Parks Dept., AND a insurance policy that covers the City of Seattle. This means gasworks and Golden Gardens are off limits, and fire performers are subject to a $500 fine per occurrence. This NEW information comes from Virginia Swanson of the City of Seattle Special Events committee and George Long of the Parks Dept. Ms. Swanson stated that due to other things in the world today, meaning terrorism, that the City needed liability coverage to protect itself if anyone was hurt, and tried to sue to the city.

The Seattle Fire Marshal's office had nothing to do with this NEW development. You still need an annual permit from the fire marshal, to perform with fire in the City of Seattle.

In the past, the Seattle Fire Marshal has set up fire performers to use Golden Gardens and other areas based on their issuance of an annual fire permit and a call in ahead of time to them. This has changed. As I understand now, all public areas of the city are under the need for a permit to be used, and all street or park permits need insurance coverage, as required by the City of Seattle Risk Management Office.

Please pass this on to other fire groups in hopes that none of us will violate the laws of Seattle, and add fire to the perceived fuel.

GOOD NEWS

Soon I will get the Cirque de Flambe a park permit for Gasworks and cover it with our insurance, so we and the NW Fire Conclave can practice legally. Until then we wait. Friday at Salish Indian reservation is still on.

Hello and thank you for joining please take a couple of minutes and make a short post introducing yourself and giving a brief history of your experinace. please include what city you are located in .

once we get 25 or 30 members we will start disscussing some saftey guidlines which will be voted on then used as the foundation of our guild.

I have been in quite a few guilds and none of them seem to ever get past the stage of a name and a web site let all work toghter and make sure this one gets farter than that.
